The part is pressurised with gas and submerged in a liquid (global test) or sprayed with a surfactant solution (local test). The leak is shown by the the regular appearance of bubbles or foam in line with the through-wall defect.
The outside surface of the part is exposed to a surfactant Solution. The vacuum box is applied to the surface and a vacuum is created; foam or bubbles appear in line with the leak.

It depends on whether the component can be fully enclosed. A hood test (vacuum or overpressure method) is used when the item can be enclosed and tested as a whole, giving an overall leak-tightness result. A tracer probe or sniffer/finder probe test is used to pinpoint the exact leak location at a specific joint, valve, or weld when the component cannot be enclosed or the leak source must be isolated. Aries Energy selects the method based on component geometry and the test objective.
Yes. Aries Energy’s helium leak testing scope explicitly covers both new production products and in-service products, including valve and flange leak detection on equipment already operating in the field, not just items undergoing first-time fabrication testing.
Helium mass spectrometer testing is used when higher sensitivity, faster detection, and reproducible, documentable results are required — for example, on critical valves, flanges, or welds needing certification-grade records. Bubble leak testing (direct pressure or vacuum box) remains suitable for quicker, lower-criticality field checks. Aries Energy offers both and selects the method based on the criticality and documentation requirements of the component.
